At about 15.30 I, Mauro, Andrea Tritto, William Demasi and a friend of Mauro Vercelli to arrive in motorway service pending the convection due to start in late afternoon. It seems monotonous, but this year the target ends up being more Vercelli.

In these moments we realize that we have made a wrong choice going into A4. Le precipitazioni sono molto intense e poco prima di uscire da esse, siamo costretti ad accostare data la violenza del vento e della grandine. Siamo praticamente in mezzo alle precipitazioni di fianco al mesociclone, vento che cambia continuamente direzione, grandine (per fortuna piccola) sparata contro la carrozzeria, visibilità zero. Lungo la strada diversi alberi abbattuti e segnali stradali piegati.
Alla fine "vince" il temporale: ha preso molta velocità e non siamo riusciti a riportarci davanti, così è lui che supera noi e ci troviamo sul bordo meridionale, ma dal lato opposto rispetto al meso. Davanti a noi abbiamo un doppio arcobaleno e, aguzzando la vista, noto una sagoma scura tra l'arcobaleno primario e secondario. Negli stessi istanti un altro cacciatore osservava la supercella da una posizione decisamente migliore nel novarese ed assisteva ad una poderosa wall cloud quasi in touchdown tornadico. Tirando le somme al termine, a mente fredda, c'è il rammarico di aver sbagliato inizialmente ad imboccare subito la A4, ma a posteriori è sempre facile trovare correzioni. Durante la caccia le variabili sono molte e non è sempre semplice fare la scelta giusta. Faremo tesoro di questo per non incappare nello stesso errore nelle prossime cacce.
C'è anche da dire che cerchiamo di avvicinarci il prima possibile alle celle piuttosto che lasciare che loro arrivino close to us. The storm produced extensive damage especially in Vercelli: roofless sheds and roofs from the violence of the wind, fallen trees ... it's probably even a quick Downburst, Everseer violent tornado with this cell (actually majestic as the size of mesociclone) can not be excluded.
